Starting a business has definitely been far more of a challenge that I thought it could be, and I definitely didn’t take it lightly. From the beginnings of sitting around thinking of names, to how we could find our niche I knew that indecision would play a lead part in the development. And a fair dose of procrastination too…
When showing the “world” what your passion is, it seems natural to be a bit shy… a bit wary of how you are coming across. Is it too jokey… too corporate… too boring… analysing every sentence to make sure that you are not misquoting yourself in anyway… And then of course… there is REDOING the whole process again, when idea’s start coming. I look forward to a few more re-writes to come!
Letting go of original concepts has been something that I have had to deal with. Advice from friends and colleagues is never nice when its aimed at changing something I spent half the night battling with, but I understand that it is purely for the good of the project, so thank you to them for their patience and help with everything (and I’m sure more to come…) and I’m sure they agree, everything is looking alot better for it too!
With all our ideas in place, soon it dawned on us that getting the word out there was the main thing in our way, as with any business. But to our advantage our industry runs on word of mouth. We are pretty happy with how we do our job, and luckily for us, there are a couple of people out there willing to put themselves forward to give us a sentence or two… which we really appreciate. One definitely sticks out - from Mr. James De Malplaquet of the Miserable Rich.
‘Sam Houselander is a cheeky, chirpy, baby-faced kind of a chappywhich could mislead you into thinking he is less capable than he is - but don’t be mistaken.Sam’s hard work and diligence has bailed us out at more gigs than i care to recall, from castles in Oxford to radio shows in Germany. Book him and give thanks’.
Thanks James, not sure if it was right for the site, but least it has gotten an airing.
On from word of mouth - our next assault is on the ghastly world of Web Design and Search Engine Optimisation. This wasn’t a world I had ever had tread before, and one that still utterly bewilders me still, but a few months in and we are getting there…
I enjoyed the Web design element alot, geeking it up for and pounding my head against my desk trying to work out why that one pixel is two far over, or why bold text would entirely dislodge a page I wasn’t even working on… Strangely cathartic.
Why can’t you just ask google nicely to put us up top, and save us both some time!! But there is also a strange sense of satisfaction that come from grappling keyword density’s and Meta Tags… Im sure there must be… somewhere :S
But months & months in… we are seeing everything come together - NOW WE FLY!!
Thanks again to all that have been helpful/hassled & haunted by all the work that we brought upon ourselves, and you too…
